We can confirm that a caregiver at the Ivan Ward care centre at Selwyn Village (Point Chevalier) has tested positive for COVID-19 after being notified as a close contact. The individual was asymptomatic whilst at work and had been complying with our strict infection prevention practices and procedures.

We are working with the Auckland Regional Public Health Service and the Auckland District Health Board and the care centre has now been closed to visitors for the next 14 days. We have undertaken rapid antigen testing of staff and residents and at this time, no other staff or residents have tested positive. The DHB mobile testing team will visit Ivan Ward on Sunday, 16 January 2022 to complete the day five PCR tests, retesting again on day eight Wednesday, 19 January 2022.

All care home staff are fully vaccinated as per the Government mandate for workers in the health and disability sector. 100% of the Ivan Ward residents are also fully vaccinated. With our ongoing vigilance around COVID-19 protocols the Auckland Regional Public Health Service and the Auckland District Health Board view the situation as a low to moderate risk.

We continue to work with and take advice from the Auckland Regional Public Health Service and the Auckland District Health Board, monitoring residents and staff for symptoms.
